From cozy cabins to 5-start resorts, Big Sky has accommodation for every style and budget. So if you’re planning to spend a few days on the mountains, then consider one of the following places in this stunning part of Montana.
Where to Stay in Big Sky?
There are three main places to stay in Big Sky – Mountain Village, Moonlight Basin, and Meadow Village. Mountain Village and Moonlight Basin are close to the ski lifts and have a variety of shops, restaurants, and activities. However, they can be more expensive compared to staying outside of the resort area in Meadow Village.
All locations offer different styles of lodging, including hotels, vacation rentals, and resorts.
Where to Stay in Mountain Village
If you want to be in the middle of all the action, Mountain Village is the place to be. Mountain Village has the widest selection of apartments and hotels, which means you should have no problem finding a place that suits your budget.
The historic Corral Motel has been entertaining guests at Big Sky for over 70 years. They have 8 rooms (don’t expect anything too fancy) as well as a lively restaurant and bar.
Location-wise, you’ll be within walking distance to the Gallatin River and numerous hiking and snowmobiling trails. And during the winter, the motel offers a shuttle bus directly to the Big Sky Resort and Meadow Village.
The Lodge at Big Sky
The Lodge at Big Sky is the perfect jumping-off point for exploring the area. You can reach Lone Peak slopes and Big Sky Resort on foot, while the hotel’s complimentary shuttle can take you to the other lifts in just a few minutes.
The rooms are spacious and come equipped with a mini kitchenette. There’s also an indoor pool, four hot tubs, and an on-site bar.
The modern rustic rooms at the Huntley Lodge are located right by the slopes in Mountain Village. Rooms are perfect for couples or families with kids who are looking for an affordable but cozy place to spend the weekend (pets are also welcomed!).
Amenities include a fitness center, outdoor pool, hot tub, and restaurant with in-room dining.
Rainbow Ranch Lodge
Situated right on the banks of the Gallatin River, Rainbow Ranch Lodge is an excellent choice for exploring Big Sky. Stay in the pond room and enjoy pristine views over the property’s trout pond or opt for a luxury river-view suite with wood-burning fireplaces and private decks.
Rainbow Ranch Lodge also has an on-site restaurant, which serves Montana-inspired dishes and gourmet cocktails. There’s also an outdoor hot tub where you can enjoy the panoramic mountain views in complete relaxation.
Shoshone Condominium Hotel
If you want the luxury of a hotel but the comforts of home, then the Shoshone Condominium Hotel is your best option. Not only will you have a full kitchen and dining area, but you’ll also have access to a health club, sauna, outdoor pool, and daily housekeeping.
The condos are located at the base of Lone Mountain, close to restaurants and shops.
Where to Stay in Moonlight Basin
While there aren’t many hotels in the Moonlight Basin area, plenty of condos and vacation rentals are available. This makes Moonlight Basin a great choice for long-term stays. However, you won’t find many budget-friendly places to stay. Most rentals in Moonlight Basin are on the upper end of the price spectrum.
Cozy get away for 2 overlooking Lone Mountain
This beautiful 1 bedroom apartment is located on the lower level of the owner’s cabin. It features a spacious yard and stunning views of Lone Mountain. A hot tub is also available to guests.
The home is on a quiet road on the east side of Moonlight Basin. Ski-in/ski-out is possible to the nearby Cascade lift.
The townhomes at Saddle Ridge are well equipped for both short and long-term stays in Big Sky. Choose from a 2- or 3-bedroom home and enjoy quick and easy access to the nearby Pony Express chair lift.
All townhomes have a private outdoor hot tub, perfect for soothing those aching muscles after a day on the slopes.
Cowboy Heaven Cabins
If you’re looking for ski-in/ski-out accommodation, then Cowboy Heaven is located right at the foot of the Powder River run. These stand-alone cabins have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and are furnished with traditional log cabin décor.
All cabins come with fully equipped kitchens, fireplaces, and an outdoor hot tub, which has breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
With 4 bedrooms and the capacity to sleep up to 10 guests, the Tanager House is the ideal home for large groups. The modern furnishings and lodge-style architecture will make you feel at home the second you walk through the front door.
Amenities include a gas fireplace, private deck, BBQ grill, and hot tub. It’s also just steps away from the Madison Base Area and Six-Shooter high-speed chairlift, making it the perfect location for a ski getaway.
Moonlight Luxury Suites
Spend your Big Sky vacation in style when you stay at one of the Moonlight Luxury Suites. From the contemporary log cabin furnishings to the panoramic mountain views, no detail was spared when designing these rooms.
Whiles the suites aren’t ski-in/ski-out, they are located just a short walk from Madison Base and Six Shooter. Some units have grills, fireplaces, and hot tubs as well.
Where to Stay in Meadow Village
Staying in Meadow Village means you’ll be further from the slopes, approximately a 10 to 15-minute drive. However, you will be centrally located next to the Gallatin River, the Big Sky Golf Course, and the bustling downtown center.
Big Meadow Guest Suite
This cozy 1 bedroom suite is one of the more affordable options in Big Sky. It has a kitchen, two full bathrooms, and even an outdoor BBQ grill. As part of your stay, you’ll also get to use the Silver Bow complex hot tub, outdoor swimming pool, and on-site laundry facilities.
Big Sky Cozy Mountain Chalet
This two-story loft is located right on the Big Sky Golf Course within walking distance to the Moose Alley and Chapel Loop trails. It comes with a full kitchen and everything you need to cook meals. You can also use the community pool, hot tub, sauna, and laundry facilities nearby.
Residence Inn by Marriott Big Sky/The Wilson Hotel
As one of the only hotels in Meadow Village, the Residence Inn is one of the hippest places to stay in Big Sky. All rooms have spa-like bathrooms and fully equipped kitchens, so they’re suitable for extended stays as well.
You can take advantage of the hotel amenities during your stay, including a fitness room, outdoor pool, and restaurant. A complimentary shuttle is also available if you want to visit the ski resort.
Big Sky is one of the best ski destinations in the country. Regardless of whether your stay near the village or on the outside of the resort, you better book your accommodation early! This popular destination tends to book out quite fast, especially during the winter season.
