Sandy Beach

Just as its name implies, Sandy Beach is a tropical oasis of golden sands, blue waters, and swaying palms. While it’s one of the best Rincon beaches for sunbathing, the large, crashing waves also make it a popular destination for surfers and bodyboarders.

If you’re a strong swimmer, then you might be tempted to go into the water. But keep in mind that there is no lifeguard on duty, so be extra careful if the swells are high.

In addition to the adventurous water sports, Sandy Beach is also a good place for beachcombing. Just take a look in the small tide pools to find an array of seashells and colorful sea glass.

Domes Beach

Domes Beach is considered by many to be one of the best beaches in Rincon for surfing. This legendary surf spot hosts a variety of competitions throughout the year, including the Corona Pro Surf. But even on non-competition days, you can still find surfers from around the world congregating here for the large, consistent waves (especially in winter).

As you might imagine, Domes Beach is a little too dangerous for swimming or snorkeling. But the tropical scenery and laid-back atmosphere make it a good spot for watching the sunset. It’s also just a quick walk from the Rincon Lighthouse, another must-see attraction in Rincon.

Maria’s Beach

On the opposite side of the lighthouse is Maria’s Beach, a lively surfing beach named after Dona Maria from the 1968 World Surfing Championship. During the winter months, the conditions are ideal for surfers of all skill levels – even beginners. So if you’ve never been on a board before, you can feel safe here (there are also a few surf schools nearby).

When the waves are small, this beach is a great place to come for snorkeling. It’s also part of the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, so you can see lots of tropical fish.

I also like this beach because of the nearby amenities. Not only are there several delicious cafes and restaurants, but you’ll also be a short walk from the Playa Maria nature trails.

Steps Beach

Also known as Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, Steps Beach is the perfect setting for underwater adventures. As with many beaches in Rincon, this is an idyllic surfing beach in the winter, with waves reaching over 25 feet high off the coast.

But in the spring and summer, the surf subsides and becomes much more swimming and snorkeling-friendly. Sometimes there aren’t any waves at all, making it a paradise for kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders too!

And as this is a marine reserve, you can expect to find a wide array of wildlife in the ocean. From stingrays to green sea turtles, there’s a lot to discover around the colorful coral reef offshore.

Rincon Public Beach

Balneario Publico de Rincon, or the Rincon Public Beach, is just a short 10-minute walk from the center of town. It’s one of the more popular beaches for local families, who come here after work on the weekend to hang out.

The beach has clean bathrooms, covered picnic tables, and even showers (if you need to rinse off the sand before heading back into town). While most people come here for a leisurely beach day, it’s also a prime destination for water sports. Bring your kayak or stand-up paddleboard and explore the gentle waves and pristine waters of the Caribbean.

Compared to other beaches in the area, this is one of the better spots for swimming. There are hardly any waves, and the bottom is sandy and safe for kids, families, or inexperienced swimmers.

Corcega Beach

If you’re looking for a picturesque beach for swimming and snorkeling, then head to the sunny shores of Corcega Beach. The waters here are almost always calm (even in winter), which is a refreshing change compared to the other surfing beaches in the area. For this reason, I can highly recommend Corcega for those traveling with family or young kids!

And while it may be a perfect place for a beach day, it’s rarely busy, so you won’t have any problem finding a spot in the sun or shade. There aren’t any facilities here, so bring your own chair, umbrella, and picnic if you’re planning to stay a while!

Almendro’s Beach

Even though Almendro’s Beach is one of the more crowded places in Rincon in the summer, its long stretch of golden sand still makes my list of must-see beaches in Puerto Rico (especially if you’re looking for a spot to watch the sunset!).

Located on the southern edge of Rincon, this beautiful beach is a little hard to find, as it’s hidden behind apartment buildings and luxury condos. But once you park, you’ll get to see the beautiful palm tree-fringed coastline where you can go swimming.

Marina Black Eagle Beach

Not too far from town is where you’ll find Marina Black Eagle Beach. While the shoreline can be a bit rocky, the waves are usually calm and suitable for swimming or snorkeling. I also like how there’s a sports rental shop right on the coast, so you can rent paddleboards or surfboards for your fun day out.

As a marina beach, it serves as the starting point for many scuba diving, snorkeling, or whale-watching boat tours. For this reason, it can be busy on weekends or summer months, so make sure to come early if you want to snag a shady spot under the palm trees.

While there are no public restrooms nearby, you will find a few cafes, bars, and restaurants within walking distance.

Pools Beach

When you close your eyes and picture a tropical oasis, it probably looks a bit like Pools Beach. The soft, golden shores are lined with lush vegetation, like coconut palms and almond trees (which provide lots of shade for those interested in a relaxing afternoon).

It’s one of the more off-the-beaten-path Rincon beaches, so you won’t have to fight for a spot on the sand – even in the peak of summer. The water is relatively calm, and there’s a shallow natural pool where you can see marine life. Just make sure to bring water shoes if you want to explore, as spiny sea urchins also make their homes here.

In my humble opinion, Rincon is easily one of the best destinations in Puerto Rico. Not only is the area world-famous for surfing, but there are also plenty of beaches for relaxing and sightseeing. And with so many options to choose from, you can essentially go to a new beach in Rincon every day of your trip, providing an unforgettable experience for any beach lover!
