Does it Rain All Day in Puerto Vallarta

With golden beaches, abundant outdoor activities, and a laid-back tropical atmosphere, Puerto Vallarta is an idyllic paradise for many travelers. But weather plays a huge role when it comes to planning a trip, as it can dictate just how much you’re able to do on vacation.

However, there are a lot of myths and misunderstandings about Puerto Vallarta weather. Although this part of Mexico does have a rainy season for several months, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll get soaked every single day.

Does it Rain All Day in Puerto Vallarta?

Even if you travel to Puerto Vallarta during the rainy season, it’s very unlikely that it will rain all day. The rain usually comes in bursts and lasts only a couple of hours. That means you can still enjoy hours of warm sunshine throughout the day!

However, rain is only one thing to consider when deciding when to plan your trip. It’s also important to consider the costs, crowds, and temperatures – which I’ll discuss in more detail below.

If you plan to visit Puerto Vallarta during this time – this article is for you. I’ll talk about the different weather patterns you might experience to help you decide on the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta.

Weather in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta has a tropical climate that can be broken down into two distinct seasons – the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season goes from November until April or May, while the rainy season continues from June until October.

But despite the different seasons, the area has a near-constant temperature and humidity level all year round. The temperature in Puerto Vallarta during the dry season is around 77°F to 86°F while the wet season is a bit hotter – 86°F to 95°F.

It’s also important to know that Puerto Vallarta is located in a hurricane-prone area on the Pacific Coast. Therefore, there’s an increased chance of tropical storms between the months of June and November. And while hurricanes are possible, it is extremely rare in this area.

In fact, there have only been three hurricanes that have hit PV in the last 50 years, so it’s not something you should be extremely worried about.

Rain in Puerto Vallarta

The rainy season in Puerto Vallarta runs from June until the end of October. During this time, showers may be more regular, especially in the evenings or at night. And while the chance of rain is higher during these months, it’s still very likely that you’ll see the sun in the morning and throughout the day.

So to answer the main question – no, it does not rain all day in Puerto Vallarta! Showers last a couple of hours at most, and it’s usually at the same time each day (so it’s easy to plan around your activities and excursions).

PV gets over 320 sunny days a year, so don’t let a little bit of rain deter you from traveling during this time. I even think that some rain during the day is a nice relief from the high humidity and heat!

Best Time to Go to Puerto Vallarta

In my opinion, there’s really no wrong time to go to PV. It’s a warm and sunny destination year-round, making it one of the best places in Mexico for a beach vacation. However, you may find that some months are better than others in terms of cost, crowds, and activities.

The dry season (November to May) is considered to be high season and the peak time for tourists to visit. With minimal rainfall and lots of clear days, you’ll have plenty of time for beachgoing, sightseeing, and water sports.

But because this is the most popular time to be in PV, prices for hotels and accommodation can be expensive. It can also be more crowded on the beaches or in the city, which can be a bit chaotic if you’re simply looking for a relaxing getaway.

The wet season (June to October) is low season. The weather and climate are warm, but rain showers and storms are more frequent compared to the winter and spring months. But with more rain, you can expect that things will be much greener. I personally think the lush and tropical landscape of the Sierra Madre Mountains is exceptionally beautiful during this time.

Low season also equates to lower prices. If you don’t mind some rain in the evening, you can save big on hotel and transportation costs by traveling during the rainy season.

In summary, deciding when you go to PV will ultimately come down to your vacation style and preferences. If you want endless hours for activities and beachgoing, then the summer months are the best. But if you want to avoid crowds and save big on travel costs, then the wet rainy season is a better time to go.

Puerto Vallarta is one of the best beach destinations in Mexico for those craving warm weather and sunny skies. And while it may rain here and there, you can still have a fun and memorable time during your visit, so don’t let a few drops stop you from booking your trip!
